The case for sensory bins
One of my favorite things about sensory bins is that there is no wrong way to create or present them! Do their contents often end up all over the table and floor? Yes! Do they provide opportunities for sensory input, exploration, play, and language development? Also, YES!
During this activity, puzzle pieces were mixed in with sensory items. The client put together the puzzle while imitating animal sounds and working to label the animals with signs and words. While specific skills were being addressed, plenty of time was also allotted to explore the materials and have open-ended play.
